My introduction to woodturning came in 2008 when a friend asked me to go with him to a demonstration by Alan Batty that was sponsored by the Palm Beach County Woodturners. I knew before I left Alan’s demo that day that woodturning was something I wanted to pursue.
Since that day 18 years ago and many bowls, boxes, platters, spin tops and other projects later, I still enjoy turning items that have a pleasing form and are well finished.
What I have enjoyed most however are the people I’ve met along the way, from my many friends at the Palm Beach County Woodturners, to the professional turners who are so willing to share their ideas and techniques to the kids at the annual Palm Beach County Fair who come up and go through our bowl filled with spin tops to find that one that’s “just right”, to the many beginning woodturners that have participated in our clubs “Learn to Turn” Wednesday workshops.
I hope and trust that this will continue for another 18 years.
