Jason Meneely lives in Gainesville, Florida, where he works as an Associate Professor of interior and architectural design at the University of Florida. With over 30 years of experience in design education, he has spent much of his career exploring the principles of form, proportion, and color—skills that now inform his growing interest in woodturning.
Although he recently began woodturning in 2018, Jason has found the craft to be a deeply rewarding creative outlet. He approaches each piece with a thoughtful yet exploratory mindset, drawing on his background in design to guide his experimentation with shape, surface, and finish. His work has earned recognition, including the Best of Show award at the 2024 Florida Woodturning Symposium and the People’s Choice Award at the 2023 Greater Jacksonville Fair Woodturning Competition.
For the past five years, Jason has enjoyed the opportunity to share what he’s learned through demonstrations at several woodturning clubs across Florida. In these presentations, he focuses on fundamental design concepts—such as balance, proportion, and form—while also exploring the creative use of color through dyes and surface treatments. He sees these sessions not only as a chance to teach but also as an opportunity to connect with other turners, exchange ideas, and grow as a community.
